George Kenrick Du Plessis was born on the 21st of August 1935, to his parents John "Hubberts" and Euphemia "Minnie Mommy Du Plessis in Benoni. He had 4 sisters and 2 brothers. He attended Benoni Primary School. Then went on to attend William Hills High School. George had to do matric three times, but realized that he was never meant to be an academic. He instead found his passion to serve people and in politics. George started working at the Plascon factory. He held a job as a truck driver for a bakery. He also worked at the Department of Labour. During this time he was also a freelance writer for the Daily Star and the Beam newspaper.
George continued his career at Liberty Life where he worked for 25 years until his retirement. He often joked and said that he enjoyed working at Liberty Life because he pretended to work, and they pretended to pay him. George married Florence Langson on the 16th if July 1959. Instead of a wedding reception, George joked and said he wanted to go to the bioscope, and so they did. George and Florence had 5 children, Neillan, Earle, Linton, Sylvana and Dinesh. They later also adopted Vaunita. George was well travelled. He was a community man who loved to serve people. George is survived by his children Earle, Sylvana, Vaunita, PJ. His daughters in law, grand children and great grandchildren. With one great grand child due next week. Rest in Peace Oupa Georgie. We love you and will miss you dearly.
